With so much regret we announce the death of our very own, Evangelist Dele Ojo, who passed away last night.
Dele Ojo was one of the Yoruba artiste who created and popularized the “Juju'” brand of music in Nigeria. The Emperor as he was popularly called in the 60s was the very first Juju musician to go on tour to the United Kingdom where he met with the queen. He also toured several cities in the United States of America.
Dele Ojo’s music career started when he met Dr. Victor Olaiya who employed him as a member of his music band. In 1961, Dele Ojo formed a band called “Dele Ojo & His Star Brothers” after Dr. Victor Olaiya had disbanded his group. Dele Ojo and his group started recording and performing songs to massive reception in live shows in some Western region states including Lagos State.
In 1976, he released an album titled “Juju Music At Its Best” under Philips West African Records which is now called Premier Records LTD.
His popular tracks include “Iya Ni Wura”, “Bouncing Bona” and “Christiana” dedicated to his wife who also passed away three years ago.
In memory of him, we bring you his greatest hits.
May His Gentle Soul Rest In Peace.
